Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are small insects that feed on the blood of mammals and birds. Adult bed bugs are oval, wingless and rusty red colored, and have flat bodies, antennae and small eyes. They are visible to the naked eye, but often hide in cracks and crevices. When bed bugs feed, their bodies swell and become a brighter red. In homes, bed bugs feed primarily on the blood of humans, usually at night when people are sleeping.
Since Bed Bugs are hard to detect, many of our clients have opted for canine inspections. We provided dogs and handlers that are nationally certified and experienced. Properly trained dogs will only signal in the presence of live insects and viable eggs
Our bed bug treatments consist of intense dry steam cleaning applications, the use of an EPA registered residual insecticide along with an Insect Growth Regulator. As well as Steri-Fab, an alcohol / ammonium chloride based solution and a residual insecticidal dust to treat behind electrical outlets.

We believe that the most effective treatment for bed bugs is heat treatment (dry steam). Our Dry Steam Machine can reach temperatures as high as 280 Fº which is a lethal level for bed bugs. Steam can penetrate objects, where as freezing cannot.

  • Strip all beds and launder all sheets, pillowcases, mattress pads and blankets on the HOT WATER cycle.
  • Remove items from closets, drawers, nightstands, book cases and dressers and store in plastic bags or plastic containers.
  • Have all clothing, fabrics and drapes laundered or dry-cleaned. Hot wash cycles will kill bed bugs. Running items in a dryer at high heat settings will kill all life stages.
  • Discard cardboard boxes, bags, newspapers and magazines. Bed bugs prefer harboring in wood, fabric and paper items as opposed to metal and plastic. The more clutter in a room, the less chance of success we have to combat a bed bug infestation. Bed bugs have pleanty of harborage if there are book shelves in your bedroom. This bed was only 2 feet away from the book shelves.
  • Discard all ripped or torn materials as well as any heavily infested item. Use disposable gloves, wrap items in black bags and handle them carefully. Think about wearing a protective outfit: although bedbugs will not jump on a person like fleas, rubbing against a contaminated mattress could dislodge bedbugs onto your clothing.
  • Don't be a curbside scavenger. Avoid bringing discarded items like mattresses, box springs and sofas in to your home.
Please read the checklist below and prepare your search areas accordingly before the arrival of the K-9 team. This checklist will be reviewed prior to the commencement of any searches.

  • The canine handler will first assess the areas to be searched.
  • Any pets and litter boxes need to be removed to an area not involved in the search.
  • The handler will not move items during their inspection and will search the premises "as is". If there is a specific area/item you want searched, it needs to fully accessible upon our arrival.
  • Toys of any sort, pet food, human food, water and all medications can not be accessible to the bed bug detection canine.
  • Noise and human distraction must be minimized to create the most effective search environment for the handler team.
  • Air conditioners, heaters and all fans must be turned off 30 minutes prior to the handler team's arrival. All windows need to be closed as well.
  • Extinguish all smoking materials within the home 2 hours prior to the inspection. This includes any air freshener products such as plug-ins.
  • In order to keep the dog focused on the job at hand, any socializing must wait until after the search is complete.
